Eastern Washington University head football coach Aaron Best has announced the hiring of Jim Chapin as EWU’s new offensive coordinator and quarterback coach on January 19, 2022.Chapin comes to Cheney after four seasons at the University of Sioux Falls where he most recently served as the associate head coach, offensive coordinator and quarterback coach. The 2021 season saw the Cougars finish 8-3 overall and win a Northern Sun Conference South Division title. Chapin led an offense that averaged 412.8 yards per game, along with 32.5 points per game and 6.2 yards per play. Under Chapin, the Cougars led the NSIC in rushing yards per game this season with 217.2, which ranked seventh nationally. Sioux Falls also only allowed eight sacks in 2021, which was also seventh across all of Division II. Running back Thuro Reisdorfer was nominated for the 2021 Harlon Hill Award, giving to Division II’s national player of the year. The Cougars had a winning record all four seasons under Chapin as the offensive coordinator, going a combined 32-14 (.696) during his tenure. Other highlights during Chapin’s time at Sioux Falls include two NCAA DII playoff appearances in 2017 and 20189 and the Cougars finished the 2017 season ranked No. 20 in the final American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) poll. Chapin also had stints at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (2012-2014) and Adrian College (2010-2011). In his three seasons at Indiana University of Pennsylvania as the running backs coach, the team won a PSAC Championship in 2012 and ended the season nationally ranked after reaching the NCAA quarterfinals. He coached two first team All-PSAC West recipients and the PSAC West Offensive Player of the Year among several other AP All-American and Super Region honorees. He began his coaching career a Troy High School and Dexter High School in Michigan after graduating from the University of Michigan in the Spring of 2009.
